Our Team:

The Contractor Performance Management Team is an integral part of the business supporting Vale’s long-term operating strategy by implementing vendor performance management processes while working with our internal customers and vendor partners to reduce total cost of ownership for services & supplies expenditure. Members of this team work across different locations to ensure all contract management processes are functioning accurately. Team members are also involved in the development of demand strategies as well as performance KPIs, initiatives, best practices and procedures.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Superintendent, Process & Controls to join our Contractor Performance Management team in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

As a Superintendent, Process & Controls , you will be responsible for developing and implementing processes and business routines to measure, monitor and report performance metrics throughout the various phases of the contract management lifecycle. This role will also be responsible for monitoring and trending costs for key contracts/categories. Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Works with manager and team to achieve goals and objective of developing a Contractor Performance Management System for Vale's North Atlantic business operations.
  • Meets with internal customers, internal stakeholders, vendors as well as the finance group to review and resolve process and governance issues as required.
  • Establishes and implements contract management processes that will improve overall performance and reduce or eliminate non-value-added activities.
  • Develops procedures, guidance and training documents to support the consistent performance of contract management activities across the business.
  • Establishes standard reporting routines to support demand planning, contract monitoring and contractor performance measurement.
  • Responsible for developing the Contractor Performance Management Area's audit plan.
  • Performs audits and compliance reviews of contracts and contract management processes for adherence and quality control.
  • Provides support in reviewing commercial strategies with a view of identifying potential control gaps and assisting in the development of KPIs.
  • Develops effective lagging and leading metrics to support continuous improvement activities within the Contractor Performance Management Area.
  • Provides standard templates to facilitate reporting, the collection of data and to support contract management activities.
  • Provides support to Contract Managers and Contract Inspectors to ensure vendors execute work in a manner that meets the terms of the contract regarding safety, productivity, schedule, quality and deliverables.
  • Provides support to Contract Managers in assessing complex claims.
  • Manages a team of analysts, cost controllers and coordinators that provide contract management support to the Contractor Performance Management Area, Contract Managers and Contract Inspectors.
  • Has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of business systems, internal controls and standard audit practices.
  • Has a working knowledge of contracts, legal requirements, contractual commitments and Vale's General Terms and Conditions.

About You

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant required.

  • 8-10 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience in identifying control gaps or areas of risk exposure in business and contract management activities.
  • Experience in developing processes and procedures to strengthen internal controls and reduce risk.
  • Good knowledge of Vale’s ERP system and business reporting systems/tools. Examples: SAP, Business Objects, Nimbi, etc.
  • A basic understanding of Vale’s procurement and contract management norms and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Teams.
