About us
Since 1888, De Beers Group has been involved in all aspects of the diamond business. From its mining operations across Africa, and most recently Canada, we are the world’s leading diamond company.
De Beers Group has been active in Canada since the early 1960s, growing from a small group of geologists in the field to having multiple offices and operations across the country:
- Gahcho Kué Mine, in the Northwest Territories, is a joint venture with Mountain Province Diamonds. It officially opened on September 20, 2016, and has a life of mine until 2031.
- Snap Lake Mine Closure Project in the NWT is expected to complete active closure in late 2024, followed by long-term monitoring.
- Victor Mine Closure Project in Northern Ontario is expected to compete active closure in early 2025, and long-term monitoring will continue until at least 2039.
- Chidliak Advanced Exploration Project on Baffin Island, Nunavut Territory, is located about 120 km from Iqaluit. The project has entered the permitting phase.
- Offices include the Calgary Support Centre, providing support services to the team in Canada, a small office in Yellowknife, and an exploration team based in Toronto, ON.
