Heavy Duty Mechanic Trainer - Mobile Equipment

Purpose of the role

The purpose of this role is to Train heavy-duty mechanics (HDMs) to be fully competent in all tasks and sub tasks required by a Tasiast HDM. The instruction takes place in classrooms and training workshops and the competencies are verified through equipment and component service and repair conducted on-the-job. Develop instruction and test material to support Tasiast HDM programs, following curricula development procedures. Where appropriate, counsel and coach individual learners. Meet or exceed Tasiast/Kinross Safety, health, and environmental standards . Contribute as a member of a large team of educational professionals, at all times demonstrating those behaviors that fully support Training and Development Department (T&D) values, as well as Kinross Gold Corporation and Tasiast Mauritania policies and procedures

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties

  • Demonstrate behaviors that match T&D values, follow and apply Tasiast Health/Safety/Environmental policies and procedures, in order to be a role model for development program participants.
  • Demonstrate competence in the principles and application of competency based learning, so that development programs delivered and assessed meet T&D standards.
  • Professionally design and deliver/facilitate Heavy Duty Mechanic (HDM) training to meet T&D customer development needs and quality standards.
  • Lead others in setting up training workshops and classrooms which meet Tasiast requirements and which will support both training and production.
  • Understand and competently apply professionally accepted principles of adult learning so that learners are given maximum opportunity to develop job competence.
  • Assist in the creation competency based assessment tools, professionally conduct on and off the job competency HDM assessments to ensure assessment standards are met.
  • Assist in scheduling and communicating learning programs, follow schedules to ensure that programs are delivered as planned.
  • Accurately record and report participant learning and assessment results so that participants' records are consistently kept up to date and recorded in the company learning management system.
  • Respond to customer learning and development requirements, provide HDM technical support and advice in order to assist T&D meet/exceed customer expectations.

  • Consistently delivering learning and assessment activities that truly achieve the specific learning outcomes for job competencies.
  • Establishing professional HDM quality and quantity standards, which meet Tasiast' s present and future skill requirements.
  • Managing learning situations that vary from "one on one" coaching to group delivery, and teaching others to operate in similar environments.
  • Establishing a workplace culture in which safety is completely integrated.
  • Sensitively and professionally work with learners from a wide range of cultures


Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10 years' experience in maintaining mining heavy equipment
  • Must speaks French, Arabic and English are a plus
  • Completion of a program in instruction technology and course development
  • In addition specialized programs, which lead to proficiencies in: Analytical Thinking, Concern for Safety & Environment, Customer Success Orientation, Cultural Sensitivity, and Team Leadership.
  • Able to work safely in a mining environment subject to loud noise, vibration, dust and diesel exhaust, heat, and insect and water born health hazards.
  • Capable of carrying 15 kilograms for extended distances.
  • Capable of sitting and/or standing for extended periods.
  • Capable of wearing appropriate safety equipment for long periods.
  • Capable of working at heights and in confined places.
