Job Summary

We are seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the Environmental Technician is responsible for carrying out regulatory monitoring activities for air, water, and soil quality as per environmental permits and environmental assessment commitments. The position requires a broad base of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental monitoring experience.

This position will be on a 14-days-on / 14-days-off rotation, based at the mine site in Geraldton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks set out in the Environmental Monitoring Plan, such as sampling and inspecting work sites to identify potential impacts and investigate environmental incidents.
  • Ensure monitoring data is collected and reported in a timely fashion.
  • Follow field procedures and receive training to collect samples and monitor data in line with environmental permits and protocols.
  • Provide input on environmental programs and practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits.
  • Provide direction and training to contractors.
  • Compile and review data to identify trends and maintain site compliance.
  • Lead by example and promote a strong culture of safety through participation in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Conduct ongoing inspections and risk assessments to identify and address unsafe conditions or hazards in the workplace.
  • Participate in the development of theEnvironmental Management System and conduct internal audits.
  • Liaise with the construction team to provide guidance and ensure the execution of earthworks is in full compliance with permits, management plans, and regulations.



Required Experience and Skill Set


  • 2+ years of relevant work experience; experience in mining or heavy industrial environments is preferred.
  • Experience with environmental data management software (EQuIS).
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental and waste legislation, standards, and industry best practices.

Certifications
  • Valid driver's license.


Education
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
