Maintenance Manager, Springer Mine & Milling Complex

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading and managing all maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site equipment, mobile equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. This role develops and executes preventative and predictive maintenance strategies, manages maintenance personnel and contractors, controls departmental budgets, and partners closely with other operational teams to maximize equipment availability while maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.

The Maintenance Manager fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamwork while ensuring compliance with all company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop maintenance supervisors, technicians, and other direct reports.
  • Establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Promote a positive, safety-first culture throughout the maintenance organization.
  • Develop staffing plans and identify training and development opportunities.
  • Manage workforce scheduling to ensure adequate maintenance coverage.

Maintenance Operations
  • Direct all preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure work orders are prioritized, planned, scheduled, and completed efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment performance and implement reliability improvements.
  • Coordinate planned shutdowns and major maintenance activities with Operations.

Asset Reliability
  • Develop equipment maintenance standards and inspection programs.
  • Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective actions through root cause analysis.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including planned vs unplanned maintenance, maintenance costs.
  • Recommend capital improvements and equipment replacement strategies.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Promote safe work practices, hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and other safe work procedures are consistently followed.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, audits, and emergency response planning.

Budget & Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage inventory levels for critical spare parts and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate procurement of maintenance materials, services, and equipment.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contractor performance.

Planning & Continuous Improvement
  • Utilize software to manage work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment history.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Reliability Centered Maintenance, or other best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, efficiency, and equipment performance.
  • Support operational improvement projects and capital initiatives.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive maintenance leadership experience will be considered.

Experience
  • 7+ years of industrial/mining maintenance experience.
  • 3+ years in a maintenance leadership or management role.
  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, heavy industry, or related operations preferred.
  • Experience managing maintenance teams, contractors, and capital projects.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mobile equipment systems.
  • Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS software (SAP, Fiix, Maximo, Pronto, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of equipment reliability principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong budgeting and cost management abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Mining industry experience.
  • MSHA training and regulatory knowledge.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
  • Experience with heavy mobile equipment and fixed plant maintenance.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
  • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Working Conditions
  • Primarily based at an industrial or mining operation.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Availability to respond to operational emergencies outside of normal working hours when necessary.
  • May be required to work extended hours during shutdowns, outages, or major maintenance events.
