Position Description
The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Technical Services Manager (site-based role).

Responsibilities
- Responsible for effective delivery Mine Planning (short & long-term), Survey, Geotechnical, and Ventilation Sections within the Technical Services Department.
- Prepare and operate within annual cost budgets for Technical Services reporting on cost variations as required.
- Manage a diverse range of key site technical functions to support daily mine operations through optimisation and development of strategies and plans to enhance production and the mine plans.
- Ensure the completion technical work required to support production plans.
- Ensure that long-term mine plans and projects for the LOM are achievable, compliant with internal and external guidelines, agreed scopes of work and in line with the strategic objectives to maintain growth and sustainability.
- Manage the planning cycle to ensure timely delivery of budget, life of mine and strategic plans.
- Assist with the preparation and review of reserves, budgets, cut-off grades and LOM plans by communicating corporate guidance and assisting in the development when required.
- Analyse production data and reports and investigate causes of delays and deviations and ensure mitigating plans are prepared and implemented.
- Ensure actions are implemented to optimize mining process performance and attain efficiency targets.
- Lead, schedule, and track the execution of special projects.
- In consultation with other departments develop and review technical issues, production methods, mine design, infrastructure, processes and materials handling.
- Develop, implement and monitor systems to collect, validate and analyse all relevant planning and performance information to assist in the optimum extraction of the ore.
- Proactively drive the application of cutting-edge technology and practice in mine planning and other technical services functions.
- Provide leadership, supervision, skills training and support for employees in accordance with departmental requirements and individual progress and development plans.
- Actively foster two-way communication teamwork among employees within the Technical Services Department and encourage interdepartmental collaboration to achieve company objectives.
- Provide the leadership and motivation necessary to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to all policies, standards and procedures during execution of their duties.
- Create a working environment that ensures that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programs.
- Drive the implementation of localization plans and performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and behaviour through effective knowledge and skills development.
- Continually review every aspect of the Technical Services Department to ensure that opportunities to add value are identified and implemented.
- Contribute to the management and operational teams to ensure that targets for resources extraction, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering or Geology.
- A post-graduate management qualification will be beneficial.
Experience and Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years in underground and open cut mining with at least 5 years at Chief Geologist or Chief Mining Engineer level and recent experience in Gold Mining Industry.
- Strong knowledge of mining regulations and safety standards.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
