Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Heavy-Duty mechanic or dual ticketed Heavy/Light Duty Mechanic (dual ticket preferred but not required) to support our site operations at the remote Minto Mine site in Yukon Territory. This role is critical in maintaining and servicing a diverse fleet of heavy equipment, power generation systems, pumping equipment, and light-duty vehicles. Preference for candidates based in Western Canada.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of heavy and light-duty equipment across the mine site
- Maintain and service a fleet of Ford light-duty vehicles including scheduling and tracking of oil changes, inspections, and repairs
- Inspect, maintain, and repair Godwin and Pioneer trailer-mounted pumps; troubleshoot hydraulic and mechanical pump failures
- Support operation and maintenance of power generation systems, including CAT XQ2000 generators; monitor load balancing, fuel consumption, and perform routine generator servicing
- Identify required parts and provide accurate part numbers for procurement; liaise with site management on lead times and critical spares inventory
- Develop and execute a preventative maintenance schedule to minimize unplanned downtime across the site fleet
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on heavy equipment and ancillary site infrastructure
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with site procedures, Yukon OHS regulations, and SCMI standards
- Maintain accurate and complete service records including work orders, fluid logs, and inspection documentation
- Perform welding and fabrication as required for equipment repairs and site infrastructure
- Actively participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard identification; contribute to a strong site safety culture
- Respond to breakdowns and mechanical emergencies in a timely manner, including after-hours callouts as required

Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Valid Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (HD) journeyperson certificate; dual Heavy Duty / Automotive Service Technician (LD) ticket strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years of field experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment in a mining, construction, or heavy industrial environment
- Demonstrated experience with CAT and/or John Deere equipment; familiarity with Cat ET and/or John Deere Service Advisor diagnostic software
- Experience with trailer-mounted pump systems (Godwin, Pioneer, or equivalent); ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and mechanical failures
- Experience maintaining light-duty vehicle fleet including Ford F-Series trucks (oil changes, brakes, tires, diagnostics)
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work in a remote, fast-paced environment with limited shop resources
- Valid driver’s license (Class 5 minimum; Class 3 with air brakes strongly preferred)
- Strong commitment to safety; demonstrated knowledge of site hazard identification and LOTO procedures
- Physically capable of working in demanding conditions including cold weather, confined spaces, and at heights
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol screening; must be legally eligible to work in Canada
Preferred (Assets):
- Experience with diesel generator maintenance and operation (CAT XQ or similar large-scale power generation systems)
- Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, TIG, or stick); CWB certification or equivalent an asset
- Experience with tire repair, mounting, and balancing for both heavy and light equipment
- Experience with hydraulic hose fabrication and fittings; knowledge of hydraulic schematics and circuit troubleshooting
- Experience operating the equipment types on site (grader, loader, excavator, backhoe) — an asset for self-sufficiency in the field
- Experience with DEF/SCR systems, DPF regeneration, and emissions system troubleshooting on Tier 4 equipment
- Mine site or remote camp experience; comfort with rotational FIFO schedule in northern/isolated environments
- WHMIS 2015, Fall Arrest, Confined Space Entry, or other relevant safety certifications
- OFA Level 1 First Aid or higher
