Phu Bia Mining’s producing assets are the Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation (PKM) and the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation (BHX), both located in the Company’s 1,260 square-kilometre Mineral Exploration and Production Agreement (MEPA) with the Government of Laos. This agreement regulates exploration, development and mining activities within the Contract Area.
This position will be primarily based at the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver with some responsibilities at Phu Kham Copper-Gold operations, located 30 km apart. Currently, the Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation is an open-cut mine with a Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) and gravity circuit process plant, with annual production targets of approximately 100,000 oz gold and 780,000 oz silver from processing 4 to 4.5 Mtpa of ore. Phu Kham is a conventional truck-and-shovel, large open-pit mine providing ore feed to a 12 Mtpa Concentrator, a single SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, with copper and precious metals recovered by flotation.
The company is entering an exciting phase and has embarked on new open-pit and underground satellite mine operations coming online in 2026 and beyond.
Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Underground Mine Superintendent to oversee underground mining activities, ensuring they are delivered safely and to plan. Acting as the key owner’s representative between the Underground Mining Manager and the contractor, you will hold responsibility for contractor performance across safety, production, quality and compliance.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Act as the owner’s representative overseeing contractor underground mining activities, ensuring compliance with safety, production, quality and site standards
- Maintain accountability for underground safety, including enforcing MSMS requirements and stopping non-compliant work
- Verify contractor personnel competencies, pre-starts, and adherence to critical risk controls and ground control standards
- Monitor and drive contractor performance against mine plan, schedules, KPIs and budget targets
- Issue daily/shift work plans and ensure execution aligns with approved designs, sequences and technical standards
- Conduct inspections, identify non-conformances, and ensure timely corrective actions
- Report production, safety and contractor performance, escalating risks and issues to the Underground Mining Manager
- Coordinate with technical services (planning, survey, geology, geotechnical) to ensure accurate execution of designs
- Lead emergency response coordination and incident reporting/investigation as required
- Provide leadership and oversight to PBM Supervisors and support capability development within the team
- Other duties and responsibilities as required
Skills and experience
- 8+ years’ experience in growing underground mining operations
- Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, development and production cycles, and contractor management across safety, production, quality and compliance.
- Experience in multi-mine site operations, preferably in underground operations in metalliferous hard rock mining
- Have proven experience leading the successful delivery of underground projects
- A visible leader committed to delivering sustainable zero-harm outcomes for safety, environment, and community
- Strong commitment to training and supporting the growth of Lao National employees
