Principal Mining Consultant
Amplify Mine Planning | Remote (US, Canada, or Brazil) | Full-Time
The Opportunity
Amplify Mine Planning is one of North America's fastest-growing mine planning consultancies, and we're hiring a Principal Mining Consultant to join our team of elite planners.
We don't do junior staff. We don't farm deliverables out to people learning on the job. At Amplify, 100% of client work is produced by Senior or Principal consultants. That's not a tagline; it's how we've built trust with over 30 clients including Agnico Eagle, Equinox Gold, Freeport-McMoRan, Kinross, Pan American Silver, Vale Base Metals, South32, IAMGOLD, and Wesdome.
We're looking for someone who is passionate about delivering best-of-breed mine planning solutions, and wants to do it surrounded by people who actually know what they're doing.
Why Amplify
Work alongside the best. Our 13 consultants bring over 200 years of combined experience. Our ranks include former Mine Superintendents, Presidents, Chief Engineers, and General Foremen. We hold P.Eng, PE, QP, SME-RM, and PMP designations. Alumni of Freeport, Newmont, Barrick, Teck, Glencore, Stillwater, Deswik, Datamine, Maptek, RPM Global, and KPI Mining.
Best-in-class tools. We equip our team with Deswik, Deswik.GO (Global Optimizer), and Deswik.APEX (we're the first consultancy in the world to adopt it). Plus VentSim, RPM Global XERAS, Power BI, and Datamine. You'll have access to the most powerful mine planning technology available, and be surrounded by internal power users who know how to push them to their limits.
Flexibility that respects your life. We are a fully remote company with presence across the US, Canada, and Brazil. Work from home, work from the mountains, work from wherever you do your best thinking. We come together for retreats (skiing in Winter Park, cenotes in Mexico) because we genuinely like each other.
Impact you can measure. Our work has delivered billions in strategic value uplift through open pit optimization, added hundreds of thousands of ounces of narrow vein gold reserves and years of mine life through optimization, and simplified complex Deswik models. You won't be churning out deliverables to fill a timesheet. You'll be solving real problems for serious mining companies.
Growth with momentum. Founded in 2021, we've grown at a 67% compound annual growth rate. We're adding services (DBS planning, cost modeling, ventilation), expanding geographies, and building something that matters to the industry.
What You'll Do
- Lead open pit and/or underground mine planning studies (PEA, PFS, FS) from scoping through delivery
- Perform mine design, production scheduling, optimization, and scenario analysis
- Sign off as Qualified Person on Reserve statements and mining methods (NI 43-101 / S-K 1300)
- Conduct technical due diligence, peer reviews, and reserve process audits
- Collaborate directly with clients at a senior technical level, building trusted relationships
- Support business development through proposal writing, client engagement, and leveraging your professional network to identify new opportunities
- Contribute to Amplify's growing reputation through quality, innovation, and thought leadership
What You Bring
- Minimum 10 years of progressive mine planning and/or mining engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mining Engineering
- Qualified Person (QP) credentials with the ability to sign off on Reserve statements and mining methods (P.Eng, SME-RM, or equivalent)
- Deep proficiency in mine planning software (Deswik strongly preferred; Datamine, Maptek, or similar also valued)
- Demonstrated experience across open pit and/or underground mining methods
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to lead client engagements independently
Nice to Have
- Experience with Deswik.GO, Deswik.APEX, or advanced optimization tools
- Background in stochastic mine planning or Direct Block Scheduling (DBS)
- Operational mining experience (you've been on the ground, not just behind a screen)
- Familiarity with cost modeling, ventilation modeling, or cave flow modeling
- Multiple languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese are all useful in our client base)
