The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Capital and Projects as Superintendent - Construction Projects.

About the role

The Superintendent - Construction Projects is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of construction projects, ensuring their successful completion within budget, on schedule, and in accordance with quality and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a deep understanding of construction methodologies and project management principles.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive project plans, including budgets, schedules, and resource allocation, to ensure successful project execution
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, to ensure a smooth workflow and timely completion of project milestones
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure project objectives are met
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations
  • Lead and supervise construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, including construction managers, foremen, and laborers, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to project plans and specifications
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate project goals, expectations, and updates, fostering effective communication and teamwork
  • Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, and implement cost-effective strategies to manage project budgets
  • Review and approve project invoices, purchase orders, and change orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract terms
  • Collaborate with the project management team to analyze project financial performance and identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement
  • Ensure construction activities comply with industry standards, building codes, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure conformance to specifications and design requirements, and address any deficiencies in a timely manner
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and ensure the well-being of all project personnel
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory authorities
  • Regularly communicate project status, updates, and key milestones to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with project objectives
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address any project-related issues or concerns, ensuring effective resolution
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health rules and procedures
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in managing construction projects preferably in a mining setting
  • Current PNG Driving License class 3 & 6
  • Extensive experience in construction project management, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, techniques, and best practices
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate teams
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficient in project management software and tools, with the ability to use technology to enhance project planning and execution
  • Thorough understanding of construction industry regulations, codes, and safety guidelines
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to anticipate and address project-related challenges


Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
