Position Overview
1911 Gold Corporation is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Chief Underground Mine Geologist who is responsible for leading all geological functions associated with the True North Mine, including grade control, resource definition drilling, geological modeling, orebody geometry interpretation, reconciliation, and mine planning support. The role ensures the safe, accurate, and cost-effective delivery of geological services that maximize ore recovery, minimize dilution, and support long-term mine development.
The Chief Mine Geologist manages geology personnel, coordinates underground exploration and production geology activities, and works closely with mine engineering, survey, metallurgy, and operations teams to achieve production targets and maintain compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Geological Operations Management
Lead and supervise all underground geology activities for the True North Mine. Develop and implement geology procedures, standards, and best practices. Ensure accurate orebody interpretation and geological mapping. Oversee grade control processes to optimize ore extraction and reduce dilution. Coordinate underground sampling, face mapping, and ore mark-up activities. Monitor geological performance indicators and production reconciliation. Ensure geology support is aligned with mine production schedules.
Resource Definition & Exploration
Manage underground drilling programs, including infill, extension, and resource definition drilling. Review and interpret drill results for resource expansion opportunities. Supervise core logging, sampling, QA/QC, and assay validation. Contribute to mineral resource estimation and reserve conversion. Recommend exploration targets and geological strategies.
Geological Modelling & Reporting
Maintain and update geological and block models. Ensure integrity and accuracy of geological databases. Prepare geological reports, production forecasts, and reconciliation reports. Provide technical input into life-of-mine planning. Support feasibility studies and operational optimization initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop geology staff, including geologists, technicians, and contractors. Manage workforce scheduling and performance evaluations. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies. Coordinate training and professional development for geology personnel.
Health Safety Environment & Compliance
Ensure all geological activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and mining regulations. Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations. Participate in risk management and emergency response activities. Promote safe underground work practices
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Work closely with mine operations, engineering, survey, metallurgy, and processing departments. Participate in production planning meetings. Communicate geological risks and opportunities to management. Liaise with consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities as required.
Required Experience & Skill Set
15+ years of relevant experience in underground mine operations in progressive roles from Senior Mine Geologist to Chief Mine Geologist. Experience in narrow veins gold deposit is a plus. Previous supervisory or management experience in a senior geology role. Experience with resource modeling and mine geology software. Strong understanding of narrow-vein and/or bulk underground mining methods Proficiency in geological software such as Deswik, Leapfrog and MX Deposit Strong understanding of resource estimation and grade control. Experience with QA/QC procedures and geological database management. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent communication and reporting skills. Ability to work under pressure in a production-focused environment. Strong decision-making and organizational skills. Commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline. Professional registration as a Professional Geologist with a recognized professional body and ability to register as P.Geo in the Province of Manitoba
