About the job HSE Coordinator - Mining

The HSE Coordinator for Mining is responsible for supporting the implementation and monitoring of all safety programs and initiatives on active mining projects. This position plays a key role in the day-to-day safety of personnel and operations, with an emphasis on safety preparedness, hazard identification, incident prevention, mine rescue, and worker training.

Responsibilities

Field Safety Support
  • Provide visible, on-the-ground safety presence in areas of the site.
  • Conduct safety observations, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with site safety protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Support supervisors and field crews in identifying and mitigating risks during daily operations.

Worker Orientation & Training
  • Deliver and track site-specific safety orientations for all personnel and contractors.
  • Support the development and facilitation of toolbox talks, safety meetings, and ongoing worker training sessions.
  • Monitor competency records and assist with training documentation and verification.

Mine Rescue & Emergency Response
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of mine rescue planning and drills.
  • Maintain readiness of mine rescue equipment and communication systems.
  • Participate in mine rescue activities, including as an active member of the sites emergency response team.

Incident & Hazard Management
  • Support incident investigations and participate in root cause analysis using ICAM or equivalent methods.
  • Record, track, and follow up on hazard reports and corrective actions to ensure timely closeout.

Safety Systems & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation including inspections, permits, and training records.
  • Support preparation of daily and weekly safety reports for internal and client distribution.
  • Assist with digital safety system inputs (e.g., SiteDocs, Intelex, or company-specific platforms).

Regulatory Compliance
  • Support site compliance with occupational health & safety regulations and mining legislation.
  • Liaise with regulatory inspectors when required, under direction of the HSE Manager.


Package Details

Compensation
  • Competitive wage is offered with annual discretionary bonus and health benefits.
  • Travel expenses are reimbursed.

Work Schedule
  • Site-based role at a remote mining project.

Qualifications/Experience/Education Requirements
  • 3-6 years of relevant health & safety experience in the mining or heavy construction industry
  • Occupational Health & Safety diploma, certificate, or related field of study preferred.
  • Valid Mine Rescue certification or willingness to obtain and maintain mine rescue training.
  • ICAM or equivalent incident investigation training is an asset.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
  • Familiarity with digital H&S systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and physically able to work in challenging underground environments.

  • Must have strong English written and verbal communication skills. Spanish communication skills are an asset.
