Position Description
The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Sourcing Manager Central AME. This role reports to the Supply Operations Manager AME.
This role is responsible to lead all strategic sourcing, category management, and procurement operations for the Barrick AME region - driving commercial value, supplier performance and compliance through a Control-Tower-governed, hub-based Centre of Excellence model spanning South Africa, Dar es Salaam, China, and site operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and execute category strategies across all major spend categories.
- Lead all major tenders, RFPs, and competitive bidding across AME - ensuring commercial rigour, transparency, and value optimisation.
- Drive spend aggregation across sites and both hubs to leverage Barrick's scale and achieve preferred-supplier pricing.
- Own China framework agreements and the China sourcing standardisation programme, working with the China Procurement Manager to standardise specifications and consolidate commodity buys from Asia-Pacific markets.
- Manage supplier relationships building strong working relationships, tracking performance, and escalating issues.
- Drive quarterly supplier performance reviews, producing scorecards, managing meetings, and tracking corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain vendor scorecards for all strategic and preferred suppliers, delivery, quality, responsiveness, and commercial compliance.
- Drive local content vendor development across Host Countries - DRC, Zambia, Tanzania, Mali, and Saudi Arabia.
- Maintain onboarding SLAs ensuring new vendors are onboarded within agreed timeframes without creating procurement delays.
- Lead the SA and Dar es Salaam hub sourcing teams and provide commercial oversight to the China hub procurement team.
- Collaborate with the Logistics team and Demand Planning team on procurement-to-delivery cycle optimisation across all corridors.
- Maintain accurate filing of tender documents, quotations and award justifications for audit compliance, and support category analysis and spend reporting.
- Own procurement data quality, commercial reporting, and savings tracking, overseeing the Data Commercial Analysts on category analytics, supplier scorecards, and savings validation.
- Ensure Ariba system health- PO compliance, contract utilisation, and requisition-to-order cycle times.
Qualification Requirements
- Degree in Supply Chain, Commerce, Engineering, or a related field.
- CIPS or equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- 10+ years in strategic procurement, sourcing, or category management, ideally in mining, resources, or industrial sectors.
- Strong proficiency in SAP Ariba, contract management platforms, and procurement analytics.
- Knowledge of African regulatory environments, local content laws, and customs regimes.
- Strong strategic sourcing, category management, negotiation and supplier management capability.
- Advanced commercial, and analytical skills, with the ability to identify savings, manage risk and track benefits realisation.
- Sound understanding of procurement governance, tender controls, audit compliance, local content requirements and cross-border supply chain risks.
- Proven ability to lead regional teams, influence senior stakeholders and drive standardised procurement practices across multi-site operations.
- Excellent communication, business partnering and executive reporting skills, with high attention to detail and ethical judgement.
